Yesterday I went with my friend from Luis Franco Ferrer to scout palaces in Palma for an interiors editorial for AD Magazine. This place absolutely blew my mind as an amazing location. Abandoned for decades, it’s decaying beauty was stunning. I spend nearly three hours taking photos of the room after room of spaces and corridors. See the gallery post for a small selection of shots. I will definitely be shooting a fashion session here soon so look out for that!
Just got confirmed to shoot the next campaign for ONCE. This will be my first collaboration with Bassat Ogilvy Agency in Madrid and also production company Wind. Shoot is next week in Barcelona.
Test shoot for Scottish friend and makeup artist Susie Kennet. Shot on the beautiful Alcudia beach just minutes from my house in Mallorca. Styling by Monika Dybicz. Model – Silvana. See some more in the gallery post.
Leaf invited me to present their new Aptus II range at the launch event for Luziernaga studios in Madrid. Great video from my friend Daniel Torrello:

I was showing off the new Leaf Aptus-II 10 digital back at my Profoto demos in the Sonimag show in Barcelona, and the Marketing Director of Leaf was so impressed with the results, that those photos became their official downloadable RAW demo files for the new back! I don’t like the shots that much as they were taken in appalling conditions on a trade show stand in 5 min… but they say no publicity is bad publicity..! See them in the Leaf web site.
Despite being born in Spain, considering myself Spanish, and now living and working here for several years as well, I had never actually done a Spanish campaign! When I moved to Barcelona this spring I went to meet with well known Spanish agency SCPF and only a few weeks later was shooting my first national campaign… for BMW.
As we all know, Spain is ‘different’ and this was no exception to the rule; the ad had to be shot during the filming of the TV commercial (which is something I’ve done a lot of), but I had to shoot the featured actor on a road on his own and then add the car previously shot in a studio in Germany in post-production!
Aparently this is BMW policy and they only allow press ads with their approved car shots. Well; I happened to know the stunt driver on the shoot and convinced him to drive the car into my shot – just to get the proportions right – and even though I did plan to do the car replacement in post as requested, once they saw the shot it was approved and the real car remained in the campaign – for the first time in BMW_Spain history!
Great video from amazing video-master Hans Hansen, El Relizador. Featuring model Nena Suicide from the shoot for the poster of this year’s Fashion Freak Festival which will be held in Seville, Barcelona & Paris, and which Alex is photography director of… much more on this to come, watch this space.
If you are in Cologne this Saturday, pop into the Wonderland (klein) Gallery to see an exibition of great performance photography by all four Womex 2008 photographers including Alex Amengual.
Press Release:
In October 2007, WOMEX (World Music Expo) invited 4 international music photographers to coverthe concert events in Sevilla, Spain during the 2007 WOMEX Festival. The WOMEX Festival is a yearly eventgathering artists from all over the world. From Belize to Mongolia, these musicians come together to performand promote their recorded music. For years, I have attended many music conventions that take place around the world from “by:Larm” inNorway to “MIDEM” in Cannes and never have I seen such a gathering of talented and inspiring artists. I wastotally surprised to see nomadic Touregs from sub-Saharan Africa playing Stratocaster guitars, La Shica, a fla-menco dancer that gives Madonna a run for her money and many other artists that completely upset my previ-ous concepts of “world music”.On March 1st, Wonderland will present 10 photos from each of the photographers that were there: AlexAmengual (Spain), Carlos Mendes Pereira (Portugal), Tomas Opitz (Hungary) and myself (Germany). Duringthe Vernissage, we will play music from the performers that are being exhibited. It will be an interesting andfun event. All the photographers will be here for the Vernissage. Please come by if you can.
